Terms and Conditions
1. Introduction
Welcome to The Hair and Beauty Directory (“HABD”, “we”, “us”), a platform dedicated to raising standards and visibility across the hair, beauty and aesthetics industry. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of thehairandbeauty.directory, our membership services, the HABD Verified programme, and all related features (together, the “Platform”). By creating an account, purchasing membership, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.
2. Definitions
Member: anyone with a registered account on the Platform.
Professional: a Member offering treatments, training, courses, or other services listed on the Platform.
Client: any visitor using the Platform to find a Professional, whether or not registered.
Profile: a Member’s page on the Platform.
HABD Verified: the status confirming we have checked a Professional’s insurance and stated qualifications, as described in Clause 8.
Badges: icons or logos indicating a Member’s self-declared membership of, or accreditation by, a third-party body (for example BABTAC, Habia, or FHT), or affiliation with a brand or supplier.
Content: any text, image, listing, review, or other material submitted to the Platform.
3. Eligibility and Membership Requirements
3.1 The Hair and Beauty Directory is for professional use only. To be listed, you must provide valid proof of your professional status:
- Professionals must provide certificates proving qualifications.
- Students must provide a confirmation letter from their educational institution.
- Suppliers and retailers must provide a link to their official website.
3.2 Your account will not be activated until verification of these documents is complete. We conduct random checks on live profiles to help ensure certification remains valid and current.
4. Membership Tiers and Accounts
4.1 Current membership tiers, pricing, and features — including Free Listing, Membership, Combination Membership, Business Only, VIP, and Staff Account — are as published on our Join page at the time of purchase and may be updated from time to time in accordance with Clause 20.
4.2 Accounts are personal to the Member or business that registered them. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity on your account.
5. Verification of Qualifications and Online Courses
5.1 All Members must advertise only services and treatments they are certified to perform. Advertising unverified services or qualifications is strictly prohibited and is a breach of Clause 6 (Accuracy of Profile Information).
5.2 We do not accept basic online courses as valid qualifications for physical treatments unless the course structure and assessment methods have been reviewed and approved by us. The following online courses are currently accepted for advertising on the Platform: Henna Brows, Brow Lamination, Lash Lift, and Hair Extensions. Skills-building courses (for example lash styling or balayage) are accepted provided the individual is already certified in the related field. Any online course not listed here must be submitted to us for review before being advertised.
5.3 Trainers advertising courses must hold an Ofqual-approved teaching qualification, or be actively working towards one. Holding an accredited qualification in the subject alone is not sufficient to advertise training programmes — trainers must also hold and display certification for every treatment they teach.
6. Accuracy of Profile Information
6.1 You are responsible for ensuring that all information on your Profile is accurate, current, and not misleading. This includes, but is not limited to, your business details, qualifications, insurance status, treatments and services offered, pricing, third-party Badges, brand affiliations, and any information added for search or SEO purposes.
6.2 If we become aware that false, misleading, or unsubstantiated information has been added anywhere on your Profile — including treatments listed purely for search visibility that are not genuinely offered — we may remove the relevant content without prior notice and place your account on a warning. A repeated breach of this Clause may result in suspension or termination of your account and membership, without refund, in accordance with Clause 18.
6.3 We may ask you to provide evidence supporting any claim made on your Profile, including qualifications, insurance, or accreditation, at any time. This applies equally to claims such as “award-winning”, which must be accompanied by documentation of the awarding body.
7. Third-Party Badges, Brands and Affiliations
7.1 Members may display Badges indicating self-declared membership of, or accreditation by, third-party bodies (for example BABTAC, Habia, the Guild, or FHT), or affiliation with brands and suppliers they use in their business. These are declared by the Member and are not independently checked or verified by us — in the same way that a salon stating it stocks or uses a particular product brand is not verified by us.
7.2 Display of a third-party Badge or brand does not imply endorsement, partnership, or verification by us, and is distinct from HABD Verified status described in Clause 8. It remains the Member’s responsibility to ensure any Badge or affiliation shown on their Profile is accurate and current, and Clause 6 (Accuracy of Profile Information) applies to this content in the same way as any other part of your Profile.
8. HABD Verified
8.1 HABD Verified is our own independent verification status, separate from any third-party Badge described in Clause 7. A Professional displaying the HABD Verified badge has had their public liability or professional indemnity insurance and stated qualifications checked by us as at the date of verification, in accordance with our verification process.
8.2 HABD Verified status is time-limited and tied to the validity of the insurance and qualifications provided. If your insurance lapses or is not renewed, or if your qualifications can no longer be confirmed, we may remove your HABD Verified status without prior notice.
8.3 HABD Verified relates only to the specific checks described above. It is not a guarantee of the quality, safety, or outcome of any treatment or service, and does not constitute a recommendation or endorsement by us.
9. Content and Use of Platform
9.1 The Hair and Beauty Directory provides a platform to advertise your services. Beyond the checks described in Clauses 3, 5, 6 and 8, we do not take responsibility for verifying the accuracy or legality of content posted by users.
9.2 You may not post or upload content that infringes on intellectual property rights, is unlawful, or violates the privacy of others. You are responsible for the content you upload.
10. Community Board, Reviews and Reporting
10.1 Where the Platform allows Members or Clients to post reviews, comments, or other content (“User Content”), you agree that User Content must be genuine, relevant, and not defamatory, abusive, discriminatory, or misleading. The use of fake reviews is not tolerated.
10.2 If you believe a review is unjustified, please contact us with evidence and we will investigate. Members can flag suspicious activity or content on the Platform at any time, which helps us keep the directory transparent and reliable.
10.3 We may moderate, edit, or remove User Content at our discretion, including content we reasonably believe breaches these Terms or applicable law. By submitting User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and promote that content on the Platform and in our marketing, unless you tell us otherwise in writing.
11. Anti-Spam and Anti-Poaching Policies
11.1 Spamming other Members, soliciting sales, or engaging in Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) schemes is strictly prohibited. Members may only contact others for legitimate business purposes, such as event collaboration or professional networking.
11.2 Poaching staff from other Members’ businesses is not allowed. Professionals may indicate on their Profile if they are seeking work; contacting Members for recruitment without such an indication may result in a ban.
12. Events, Classifieds, Jobs and Room Listings
12.1 Members may list events, classified items, job vacancies, and rooms for rent on the Platform, subject to any category-specific rules published on the relevant listing page.
12.2 We are not a party to any transaction, booking, or agreement made between Members, or between a Member and a Client, as a result of a listing, and we accept no responsibility for the accuracy, safety, or completion of any such listing beyond our obligations under Clause 6. We reserve the right to remove any listing we reasonably believe is inaccurate, misleading, or in breach of these Terms.
13. Membership Fees, Billing and Cancellation
13.1 Current membership pricing and payment schedules (monthly or annual) are as published on our Join page at the time of purchase. Paid memberships renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled in accordance with this Clause.
13.2 You may cancel your membership at any time via your account dashboard or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and no partial refunds are provided for the remainder of a paid term except where required by law.
13.3 If you are contracting with us as a consumer at a distance, you may have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of purchase under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, save where an exception applies — for example, where you have expressly requested that services begin immediately and acknowledged that your right to cancel will be lost once performance is complete.
14. Service Use and Payment Between Members and Clients
14.1 The Hair and Beauty Directory provides a platform for Clients to research and connect with Professionals, but we do not verify the credentials of individual providers beyond the checks described in Clauses 3, 5 and 8. Clients must conduct their own due diligence when engaging a Professional or using a service found through the Platform.
14.2 All monetary transactions conducted between a Member and a Client, whether via the Platform or after connecting through it, are the sole responsibility of the individual parties involved. We are not a party to, and are not liable for, any dispute or issue arising from such a transaction.
15. Relationship Between HABD, Professionals and Clients
We operate the Platform as a directory and matching service. Nothing in these Terms creates any employment, agency, partnership, or joint venture relationship between us and any Member.
16. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property on the Platform, including text, graphics, logos, images, and software, is the property of The Hair and Beauty Directory or its content suppliers, and is protected by intellectual property law. Unauthorised use or reproduction is prohibited. You retain ownership of Content you submit, subject to the licence granted in Clause 10.3.
17. Acceptable Use
When using the Platform, you must not: provide false or misleading information; impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation; use the Platform for any unlawful purpose, or to harass, abuse, or harm another user; attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform or interfere with its operation; or scrape, copy, or extract data from the Platform other than through features we provide for that purpose. We may suspend or terminate your account for any breach of this Clause.
18. Right to Refuse, Suspend or Terminate Membership
18.1 We reserve the right to refuse or revoke membership where we believe a Member is not contributing to the positive development of the industry, or is in breach of these Terms.
18.2 Members found to be lacking valid insurance or certification, or offering inadequate training, will not be permitted to advertise the relevant services, and membership may be terminated without notice where such issues are not resolved.
18.3 You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Termination does not affect any rights or obligations that arose before termination, including any fees already due.
19. Privacy and Data Protection
We process personal data in accordance with UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Details of what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights are set out in our separate Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
20. Limitation of Liability
20.1 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under English law.
20.2 Subject to Clause 20.1, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from a Member’s or Client’s reliance on Content, Badges, or listings on the Platform, or from the acts or omissions of any Professional. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any information provided by Members or third parties, and the Platform is offered on an “as is” basis.
21. Amendments to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Where a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we will give you reasonable notice before it takes effect, for example by email or a notice on the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
22. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
