How it began

The platform began during the pandemic, when professionals finally had time to talk openly about the reality of the industry. Cheap, fast-track courses had caused long- term damage. Many professionals did not know they had been trained incorrectly. Clients were unsure who to trust. Social media had replaced skill as the measure of credibility, and at the same time the economy was shifting. The industry felt lost, and no platform reflected these challenges. That is when the work began.

About the

founder

The Hair & Beauty Directory was created by Helen Ward, an industry professional with almost thirty years of experience across hair, beauty and advanced aesthetics. Helen has run a successful city-centre salon for over fourteen years, earned more than forty awards, taught hundreds of professionals and trained teams across the UK. Her background spans salon ownership, education, mentoring and business development — giving her a full view of how the industry works at every level.

Helen didn’t come from a corporate background or a funded environment. She built her career from scratch, becoming the first in her family to earn a degree, later completing a Cert Ed and a wide range of professional qualifications. She was diagnosed with dyslexia later in life and is currently on a four-year waiting list for an ADHD assessment — but none of this stopped her from building a career, running a salon, teaching, and ultimately learning the technology needed to develop this platform. see more
